Project

Early Residence

Solution

This residence, located in Aulander, North Carolina, was designed for a single, retired school teacher. The design challenges were to create a place for often entertaining, and occasional overnight guest. Ms. Early also has a love for cats! This house needed be designed not only for herself but accommodate her cats as well. This was achieved by creating cat nooks and doors, and a cat proof outdoor fence to allow her cats to enjoy the ability of going inside and out whenever they desire. The site plan for this project was a small town, wooded lot with different views in all four directions. The inspiration for our design was to create spaces that could enjoy several views within each area. To accomplish this the house features varying degrees of special experience depending on which direction one looks. Some of the many wonderful features of this custom designed house include:
Natural sunlight in every room so that no artificial light is required during day light hours, A living room that opens to generous deck and screen porch, A master bedroom suite that opens to a private on suite porch, A retreat like guest room for special visitors, A kitchen and dining room featuring natural wood cathedral ceilings, A geothermal heat pump system and many other environmentally conscious materials
