Project

Brinkley Residence

Solution

The Brinkley family has a 100+ year old farm house in Aulander, NC. Although this house already had an abundance of character and history, the family had a desire to add to it by designing a new dining room adjacent to their current kitchen. After studying the views, circulation and natural light in the existing space it became apparent that there were better solutions. The ideal design was to turn their existing family room into a dining room and design a new addition that would incorporate their now absent family room. By doing this the family also had the opportunity to create a screened in porch, a new entry from the driveway, as well as provide many magnificent views of their surrounding farm land. Overall this addition enhanced the integrity of their historic house while enhancing it with a new 20th century living space.
